Our services
Headway North Worcestershire offer many services to help people with brain injury and their families.
REHABILITATIVE DAY SERVICES - we have a varied programme of activities in day centres across north Worcestershire: Headway House Stourport, Wendron Centre Bromsgrove and the Oasis Centre Redditch. Art, pottery, yoga, communication groups (to improve written and spoken skills), gardening, sport activity, IT courses, discussion and social groups, a fishing group to mention a few. Groups are small, friendly and good fun. We have a choir that meets and performs regularly in the community. We have also recently redesigned and refurbished our kitchen to enable living skills courses to be offered to enable people to learn new practical skills.
FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES: We have a dedicated worker who helps the relatives of people who have a brain injury to come to terms with the change to their life in a positive way. Guidance is very important to families who may be confused and distressed - especially children. Help can be given to access the services so desperately needed to go forward after the trauma of brain injury in the family including applying for the right benefits.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT: Learning to cope at home and out in the community after a brain injury can be hard. We have a team of support workers lead by Co-ordinator Rosemary Bastida who are trained to a high standard to give people the confidence they need to integrate back into the community and learn to have a normal life again. Memory strategies, dealing with day to day problems, accessing other services and applying for the correct benefits to improve quality of life are some of the things we can help with.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES:Headway has a full and varied programme of social activities. In the past year we have had race nights, barn dances, BBQ's in the beautiful gardens at Headway House, coffee mornings, golfing days, fishing trips, and outings all over the country. We have organised holidays, a Christmas dinner dance and many fundraising events too - last year we raised money through an abseil at Tank Quarry in Malvern. CARERS' GROUP: Our Family Support Worker gives individual support to carers who need one to one help with the stresses and strains of caring for someone with a brain injury. The well-being of a carer is just as important as that of the person with brain injury. The support Vicky gives can be the difference between a family coping and not coping in difficult circumstances.
As well as one to one support,we are fortunate at Headway in having a Carers' Group. They are a self-lead group who meet regularly to support one another as carers, to share information. experiences and give emotional support.
